mildly interesting internets site o' the week: if it were my home.
premise: you don't pick the country your from. here's how your life my be (statistically) affected if you were from tonga or macedonia or... canada.
oh, how would my life be different if i lived in the great white south*? let's see how accurate these stats are.

If Canada were your home instead of The United States you would...
- experience 28.67% less of a class divide
- use 27.2% more electricity. (it's -13 degrees out, folks. damn right i do. er--wait... that's american speak. what i intended to say was: the colder climate in my present location necessitates an increase in electricity consumption, particularly given the electrical heating in my home.)
- have 25.67% less babies (have you seen me, lately, internets? i think i'm carrying a full one.)
- spend 45.33% less money on health care
- have 18.73% less chance of dying in infancy (well done there.)
- make 17.24% less money (unless you account for the current exchange rate. wtf?)
- live 3.05 years longer
- have 8.6% more chance at being employed (government redundancy, baby!)
- consume 6.5% more oil
- have 4.01% more free time
- be 33.33% less likely to have HIV/AIDS (unless you live on east hastings street of vancouver.... then you're apparently on your own.)
so basically, (we) canadians can take care of ourselves better and destroy more of the environment all with less cash and less people than (us) americans. how's that for efficiency?
* i was born and grew up in the U.S. of A. north of where i now live in canada. significantly so. it's true. get a map.
